H.M.P. PARC EXTENSION PROJECT. Submission to HMPS for extensions to HMP Parc, including a new 326 bed House Unit, additions to the Education Unit, Visits facility, Central kitchens and administration areas. The project, valued at around £55,000,000 gained full planning permission in the Autumn of 2007, the project completed in Spring 2011.

DCMF No 6 PFI Competition for Prisons at BELMARSH, LONDON & MAGHULL, LIVERPOOL. In competitive interview Nick Hyams' practice at the time won the role of Lead Architect to the G4S/Galliford Try Consortium bidding for the two prisons: Successful through all the bidding rounds, he got through to the last three consortia for both prisons.  Preferred supplier status for both projects was announced in the Summer of 2009.

IMMIGRATION RELOCATION CENTRE, GATWICK AIRPORT. Nick's team were appointed by BAA to undertake concept design work to produce the initial scheme that was later taken forward and developed by Skanska.

OAKHILL SECURE TRAINING CENTRE, MILTON KEYNES. Nick's team were appointed by G4S to design the submission that went on to win this PFI competition for the last STC built by the Youth Justice Board. This was followed with the design of a specialist Mother and Baby Unit. Nick went on to undertake the conversion of an existing residential unit at HMP Parc to create a new juvenile unit at the prison.

H M P PARC.   The first private prison procured under the government’s Private Finance Initiative (PFI). Responsible for all aspects of the practice’s architectural involvement as a member of the successful Consortium for the Design, Construction, Management and Finance (DCMF) of a category B, 800 cell, local prison at Bridgend in South Wales. Alternate director on the Executive committee for Bridgend Custodial Services until disposal of the practice’s equity holding. Total draw down from financial institutions: £77 million. Construction contract commencement: January 1996. Completion/operational occupation: November 1977.
